Midnight Sun
June – July
The most symbolic phenomenon of the summer in Lapland is the Midnight Sun, also known as the Nigthless Night, during which time is not to be spent sleeping but exploring nature.
Summer nights are nice and cool and nature is bustling with life. The fell tops are unbeaten spots for admiring the Midnight Sun and the vast, endless scenery.

Restaurants
Ylläs offers a diverse range of restaurants during both the winter and summer seasons. The unique landscapes of the area make dining an exceptional experience – you can enjoy a meal on the top of Ylläs fell, in the tranquility of the forest, or by the calm lake. Menu options include traditional home cooked food as well as beautifully presented five-course meals in high quality fine dining restaurants.
Map and trails
The diverse outdoor trails of Ylläs in its pure and beautiful fell landscape are suitable for the active athlete, day hiker, and those with special needs. The only challenge you might face is the difficulty of choice – there are plenty of routes to go around!

Biggest in Finland
Ylläs Ski Resort is Finland’s biggest and it is located between two Lapland villages.
Today we celebrate the longest day of the year—the summer solstice. In Ylläs, the day hardly differs from other summer days, as the midnight sun ensures that daylight lasts a full 24 hours, and night does not arrive at all for over a month.
In Lapland, summer is not just a season. It is a celebration of light. The sun circles endlessly above the fells, painting the landscape in soft hues and stretching moments into something lingering, almost timeless. The midnight sun carries a calming quality: nature does not rush, and neither do people.
At the same time, this celebration of light reminds us how sensitive the Northern Hemisphere is to changes in light. Now we live in a time when there is more than enough light, but we know that in the cycle of the year, everything will eventually turn upside down. Ahead lie gradually darkening evenings and, eventually, the polar night, when the sun gives way to quiet twilight.
Do you prefer the light of the midnight sun or the peacefulness of the polar night?
