Best Mountain Biking Trails in Lapland

The Ylläs shared trails for hiking and mountain biking in all difficulty levels. You can enjoy some of the finest mountain biking experiences available by conquering the Kukastunturi Fell - Surrounded by Finnish taiga forest Kukastunturi offers stunning scenery. The long-awaited Ylläs-Levi Mountain Bike Trail, which runs through the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, was opened in the summer of 2015. A little later in 2017 National Park opened most summer trails for biking, and several other cycling routes and destinations are located nearby.

Mountain Biking Season: June-September. Snow melts until June and biking season lasts until snow covers the trails, normally mid-ish October.

 

Trails and Map

Ylläs’s mountain bike trail map provides information on mountain bike routes and their difficulty levels. Maps are sold by local companies and by Tourist Information at the Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas. The income from map sales is used to maintain and develop the trails.

Ylläs Bike Park

Ylläs Bike Park is the place for downhill mountain biking - it has longest routes and most vertical in Finland. Easy blue trails suits first timers and beginners. Red trails offers more challenge for advanced bikers. Ylläs Bike Park is located in Ylläs Ski Resort Ylläsjärvi.

Equipment rental and maintenance

There are several bike rentals in the Ylläs which hire mountain bikes and thick-wheeled fat bikes. They also provide bike maintenance and washing services. Also ask for guided mountain bike tours, on which you can learn the basics of mountain biking, or explore new routes safely with a local guide.
