Do I need a permit to fish?
Permits are needed for fishing and can be purchased from Kellokas Visitor center. There you can also find more information on fishing.
Can I camp in Ylläs?
Yes, in Finland you can camp freely as long as you don’t set up camp to near to people’s properties, if you wanted to camp within the national park, pitching areas are restricted. Wilderness huts are also available where you can sleep; these are marked on the hiking maps. For further information ask at Kellokas info centre.
Mosquitoes, are they really that bad?
Mosquitoes tend to arrive in the area at the end of June, after midsummer. The number of mosquitoes varies each year depending on the previous seasons and whether they were drier or wetter than usual. Hiking trails on the fells and in open spaces are still enjoyable as the breeze keeps the mosquitoes at bay.
