The Särestöniemi Museum in Kaukonen, Kittilä, displays the art and working environment of Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981), a prominent Finnish artist whose most creative period was in the 1960's and 1970's.
The museum hosts a collection of nearly 500 works of art by Särestöniemi. The majority of these are oils on canvas or watercolours, as well as woodcuts and etchings. Works on display are chosen according to varying themes, and changed once or twice a year. The Särestöniemi museum also hosts various cultural events and concerts. There is a small cafe and museum shop available.
