Hints for skiers
Ride the giant
Ascend comfortably to the top of Ylläs Fell in a gondola lift and enjoy the longest slope in Finland. Jättipitkä (”enormously long”) is three kilometres long. The number 463 guarantees a speedy ride down, because it is exactly how many metres this hill is from ground level – the biggest in Finland in that respect too!
Down the broad way
It is safe to slide down the broad slopes of Ylläs at your own pace. In the upper region of Aurinkokuru you can enjoy the ride without a worry – you are on the widest slope in Finland! This slope, called Lännenleveä (”wide west”), allows for long broad turns, because it is a whopping 200 metres wide.
Need for speed
In Ylläs there are 24 semi-difficult and 6 difficult slopes for speed lovers. The long slopes guarantee that you can blast down as fast as your mind and legs can take. One good way to enjoy some real speed is to take on the World Cup slope, the only FIS-approved Super G slope in Finland.
Atmospheric sliding
The darkening evenings or the polar night are no hindrance to downhill skiing, because a total of 29 of the slopes of Ylläs are illuminated. So, enjoy the sharp turns and the blue moment that descends onto the fells. Täyspitkä (”full length”), the longest illuminated slope in Finland at 2 600 metres, is open from the beginning of the ski season.
