Cross country skiing

Ylläs is a skier’s oasis. There are total of 330 km of mechanically prepared trails are available and 38 km of these are illuminated. The great fells are easy to reach also for beginners. The trails are arranged so that the route can be changed as desired, therefore giving countless alternatives in the beautiful nature. There are so many different routes that you can choose a new one every day. Many of the tracks take you inside the Pallas-Ylläs National park where the pure nature is carefully preserved.

There are so-called warm tracks where it might be as much as 15 degrees warmer than down in the village. The skiing season begins in October and lasts until May - the long season offers athletes many good opportunities to practice. The excellent and warm ski tracks, proper illumination, versatile routes and variable terrain meets the needs of all skiers.

The cafés and campfire spots along the ski tracks guarantee the success of your skiing day. The Ylläs rest stop network is made up of a total of 25 lean-to shelters and Laplander huts and 14 ski track cafés! You will find these resting places by the villages as well as in the middle of the national park.

Activities

Where not to walk...

There are plenty of designated walking paths in Ylläs. It is important not to walk on the cross country tracks, not only does it destroy the tracks but it is dangerous for both the skiiers and walkers.
