Hunting and fishing


Ylläs area offers magnificent settings for a small game requester. Fell spreads around the vast wilderness of ancient forests. The area has a number of old-growth forest conservation areas which are especially capercaillie mind. Fell on the south side have the best chance to get birds. In the National Park area hunting is completely forbidden.

Fishing and ice fishing

Ylläs is a peak of interest for a fisherman in every season. Whether you want to fish in flowing water wild grayling, salmon, a clear mountain lake trout or a small forest pond char, Ylläs is your choice. Ylläs has countless lakes, ponds, rivers and small creeks, which provide environment for fishermen to try their skills. It is only about a 30 minute drive to one of Finland's best salmon rivers, the Tornio-Muonio River. Each year, the organization of fishing competitions with good prizes have accumulated large amounts of participants from different parts of Finnish.

Fishing licenses

Remember that a fisherman is obliged to obey the rules for fishin and have a valid fishing permit. Fishing permits are sold by Kellokas Visitor Centre (Tunturintie 54, Akaslompolo). Further information Ylläs fishing waters can be found in Metsähallitus service.

Guided fishing trips and fishing courses

If the Ylläs region fishing waters are not familiar, or you may want to leave the kingdom of the king of fish in Tornio-Muonio River and learn the secrets of salmon rowing, company called Lappean Loma arranges salmon rowing schools throughout the salmon fishing season from early June until the end of August. From Lappean Loma you can also rent a boat and row salmon on their own. In Ylläs you can also explore fly fishing or even ice fishing in winter with professional local guides.
